Babies cannot get nutrients from solid food like fruits and vegetables. Milk is the only source of nutrients they have. As a mother, we will always want the best for the growth of our baby. Deciding to breastfeed or formula feed our baby is the hardest thing to do especially when we look at the pros and cons of both.

how to make formula milk for baby - Which Is Better: Breastfeed Or Formula Feed

Here, I include the advantages and disadvantages of both types of milk that mothers can feed their baby.

Breast milk

As we all know, breastfeed milk gives the best nutrients for our baby but other than that, it is also free. Being a new mother, you surely have spent a lot on other necessities such as crib, diapers, clothes and so on. Breastfeeding your baby will help you financially. Breastfeeding also does not require you to buy any bottle for your baby unless you are pumping breast milk. At least, you won’t have to spend for bottles for the first one or two months.

Surprisingly, breastfeeding can be considered as convenient for both parents. Especially during night time, you don’t have to get up to get the milk done or to warm the milk. It is fresh from your breast which means you won’t have to wash the bottles beforehand and afterward.

Breastfeeding means skin-to-skin contact. It really helps the mother and baby to bond and have an emotional connection. Skin-to-skin contact also helps to stabilize the baby’s temperature and breathing rate.

Of all the advantages that you could get from breastfeeding your baby, there are also disadvantages of doing so.

The main concern of breastfeeding is always the mom’s personal comfort. You will have problems with back pain and support so you will need proper practice to get used to it. Breastfeeding moms also tend to experience cracks or itchiness around the nipple areas and that is just so uncomfortable. With the best breastfeeding cream, you can get your nipples heal faster than they usually do.

Formulated milk

Moving on to the formulated milk, it also has its own advantages and disadvantages. One thing about formula feeding your baby, it is more flexible than breastfeeding them. Other than pumping your milk, you will get to make the milk and give it to your partner or caregiver. You will be able to get your work or task done while your baby get their milk.

It is also more convenient, especially when you are feeding your baby in public. You will not have to find any private space or nursing room just to feed your baby. Giving formulated milk also will get your partner involved in taking care of your baby and at the same time creating the father-baby bond.

This is also the important thing that people always forget, mother’s diet. As for someone who takes alcohol, caffeine or any unhealthy diet for a new mom, giving formulated milk to your baby is a good choice. Sometimes, your diet will give side effects to your baby such as stomach discomfort and bloating.

The disadvantages of formula feeding your baby is the cost of buying it. Formulated milk from stores in Malaysia can cost you up to RM200 which for some people that is quite a lot of money. It also does not give you the same benefits as breast milk.

You may ask opinions from your relatives and friends but don’t let others influence your decision. But after all, only you know your condition and what works best for your baby.
